My dream internship in Japan
Hello, I am Tomek Halas, and I recently started my data science internship at LiLz. I began my internship in June while I have been staying in Japan. I came to Japan in early March for a student exchange program at Shibaura Institute of Technology. During my time there, I decided to gain hands-
on experience in data science as well.
I am currently studying at a university in Tokyo. I come from Poland, where I have pursued my studies in computer science and applied mathematics. During my free time, I find joy in reading books, playing tennis, and engaging in chess matches while drinking good cup of tea. I also have a deep appreciation for Polish cuisine, particularly Pierogi, dumplings hold a special place in my heart 🥟.
Recently, I have developed a profound interest in time series analysis and the fascinating applications of artificial intelligence.
I have graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Wrocław University of Science.
Simultaneously, I am currently in my third year of bachelor’s studies in Applied Mathematics, where I have decided to pursue an internship. Despite not having much prior work experience, I am eager to acquire practical knowledge. With a strong interest in the application of mathematics using Python, I am determined to learn as much as possible.
I have developed a keen interest in Time Series Analysis and Machine Learning. Following my graduation in computer science, I undertook a six-month internship focused on managing databases for bank clients. This experience provided me with valuable skills in SQL and database management.
After completing the internship, I participated in a student exchange program. To further enhance my proficiency in Time Series Analysis and Machine Learning, I made the decision to join Lilz.
I chose LiLz for my internship because while I was on a student exchange program, I decided to look for English-speaking job opportunities to gain practical experience in Data Science. My goal was to start working on modelling large datasets, forecasting future values, and improving my Python
development skills. Since arriving in Tokyo, I have been actively attending various programming events, and it was during one of these events that someone recommended that I inquire about an internship at LiLz.
During my interview with Kuba (the CTO) and Otsuka-san, I gained my first impression of the company and my future work. I am aware that I still have much to learn, but I discovered that LiLz is an excellent place to expand my knowledge and skills. Currently, Kuba and Otsuka-san are guiding and assisting me with my project.
I have been working at LiLz for a month now, and I have been assigned the task of creating a model to predict future values based on historical data. Alongside this project, I have also gained valuable insights about the company. I am excited to continue learning and contributing to the growth of the company.
